FOCUS

Zara Hoogenraad TANGLED LINES LEGENDS • Zara is originally from the Netherlands but now calls Tarifa home, where she makes the most of the spot’s strong winds for practicing her favored discipline of Big Air. She was the 2024 GKA Big Air World Champion and also made the podium at the first women’s division of the Red Bull King of the Air last year. Her fellow team riders and Big Air competitors have fired her some questions.

ON THE LIST Hua Hin THAILAND

ELEVEIGHT FS AND COMMANDER AG PRO • Antoine Ollivier, who hails from New Caledonia, is a 2x French Champion and the 2023 GKA Junior World Champion. We thought we’d find out more about him and the gear he rides.

Plane Jump • Some videos take more organization than others, and Lasse Walker’s attempt to film himself jumping over a plane is certainly up there on the coordination scale! If you haven’t seen the video of his successful world-first stunt yet, jump on the QR code and check it out. We gave Lasse a shout to find out more about the filming process involved.

KILPISJÄRVI • You’d be forgiven for thinking that Kari Schibevaag’s home country Norway, being so far north, dumps constant snow for the snowkite fan, but it turns out rain is actually a regular feature during winter there. So it makes complete sense that Kari hightailed it further north in search of colder temperatures and perfect powder for the rejuvenating trip she needed.

YOUNG BLOOD CAMP • For a week in the French Riviera, the Porsche Young Blood Camp brought together ten emerging kiters. The camp, centered on growth, was all about stoking their passion for the sport, creating fresh motivation, facing new challenges, and coming away with tools they need to excel.

Under the Hood… • It’s been five years since kiting legend Kevin Langeree and designer Damien Girardin fused their talents – and their surnames – and launched their brand Reedin. We caught up with Damien about how the first half decade has gone, and about their latest product launches, including an exciting new lightwind model.

STUFF we like the look of

RELENTLESS SYNERGY • For all of us, when doubt and fear creep in, often what it takes to overcome that is the support and encouragement of your friends and family, and in the case of kiting, your fellow kiters. This is no less important for pro riders as Nathalie Lambrecht and Francesca Maini found out when they filmed their recent project Relentless Synergy in iconic Cape Town.

GALE WARNING • Andrea Principi, Noè Font and Xander Raith, accompanied by ION Marketing Manager David Mariot and photographer Craig Kolesky, journeyed north from Cape Town to one of the windiest kite spots on the planet. Namibia’s strong winds were perfect for Andrea to flaunt his Big Air skills, while Noè and Xander had to cram their freestyle practice into the short hour before the sun rose and the wind went ballistic…

NUKING • Kimo Verkerk is one to watch. He started kiting at 10 years of age and competing at 14, went on to win the Dutch Youth Freestyle Championship, and then bagged himself a spot on Slingshot’s international team. He has since competed at a number of international Big Air events and is driven to make it to the top. He got a massive confidence...
